Resident Advisory Board

 

Better known as- “THE RAB”

 

 

     The Resident Advisory Board (RAB) of the Jacksonville, Florida Inc. consists of  resident leaders from all public housing communities. They are elected officers that represents the twenty-two communities that are managed by the Jacksonville Housing Authority.  The RAB elected officers are:

 

  •   Ms. Phyllis Maxwell, President, (Twin Tower, RMC),
  •   Lue Simmons, Vice-President (Oaks at Durkeeville RMC),
  •   Zuleca Johnson, Secretary (Blodgett Villas RMC)
  •   Monek Johnson, Asst. Secretary, (Jacksonville Beach RMC)
  •   Shirley Kohn, Treasurer, (Southwind Villas)

 

     The mission of the RAB is to empower low to moderate income level residents including Section 8 recipients in their quest to become self-sufficient by advocating for the needs and collaborating with other organizations to ensure that services are provided   The members of RAB plays a significant role in helping to develop the Annual PHA Plan and the Admissions and Occupancy Policies.  The input given by the RAB helps to the Jacksonville Housing Authority to continue providing clean, safe and affordable housing to low to moderate citizens in this community.                                                                                                                                                                                                          

      Additionally, the members of the RAB are given the privilege of serving on the grievance panel for the Jacksonville Housing Authority.  They hear disputes between the managers of the public housing communities and residents and make decisions on whether the residents should remain in public housing.  They do not handle disputes that involve drugs or crime.  

      The RAB is governed by a set of by-laws.   The RAB holds monthly meetings and have an election of officers every three years.   

      The accomplishments of the RAB include collaborating with the Jacksonville Housing Authority to promote services provided at the Neighborhood Network Center in Brentwood Lake and Fairway Oaks that include GED classes and basic typing classes and co-sponsoring Annual Events such as Entrepreneurship Fairs, the Homeownership, Job and Career Fair, and the Senior Adult Participation Day.

     If you do not know the resident leaders representing your community, please ask your manager.   There are many volunteer opportunities available for residents to serve.
