Background
Jacksonville Housing has completed a draft of its Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH), which looks at whether everyone has similar choices for housing regardless of their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), religion, disability, or whether they have children. The AFH:
• Identifies the primary conditions that limit fair housing access in Jacksonville;
• Recommends and prioritizes actions to that address these limiting conditions in order to:
o Reduce segregation;
o Eliminate racially and ethnically concentrated areas of poverty;
o Reduce disparities in access to community assets; and
o Reduce disproportionate levels of housing need for families with children, people with disabilities, and people of different races, ethnicities, and national origins; and
• Outlines goals, milestones, and metrics for implementing actions to address fair housing issues in Jacksonville.
Public Review Period
The opinions and perceptions of local residents are an important part of this study. To provide input on the Assessment of Fair Housing, all residents are invited to review and comment on the draft plan, which will be available for a 45-day comment period beginning October 27, 2022, until December 14, 2022, via the project website, jacksonvillehousingafh.org. Residents may also view the plan in-person at Jacksonville Housing's office, at 1300 N Broad Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
Public Hearing
Additionally, a public hearing in which residents can provide oral comments on the draft Assessment of Fair Housing will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Brentwood Park Auditorium, 3465 Village Center Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32206.
To Make Comments
Residents may comment on the plan using the comment form on the project website, jacksonvillehousingafh.org. Written comments may be mailed or delivered to the attention of Todd Aubuchon, Jacksonville Housing, at 1300 N Broad Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202, or emailed to info@mosaiccommunityplanning.com. Alternatively, comments may be made orally at the Public Hearing described above or by phone at (904) 366-6417.
Jacksonville Housing will receive comments via the project website, email, mail, and phone until 5:00 pm Eastern on December 14, 2022.
